Title: TOP GUN and more.
Post by: Mel Santmyers on Thu, 05/09/13, 07:58 PM
Congratulations to Frank Tiano for 25 years of Top Gun. This year there were about 90 contestants in total. Several from other countries were entered.   Next!  One of our officers Mike Barbee won the expert class with his beautiful T34B an amazing accomplishment.
In addition Kyle Goodwine a California guy won his class with a B-17 no less and placed highly with an F4F wildcat in the unlimited class as well.
Read all the results on the Top Gun website.               Mel.

That could be dangerous! Right???   There must be some qualifiers that have been held for 25 years in a row by an RC club or individual. How about some help here and let us all know so we The Scale Masters group can thank them for their long term support as well.               Mel.

The longest is Mint Julep... I believe it has actually been around longer than USSMA and has been a qualifier since USSMA pretty much began making it the longest continual qualifier. We honored Dale Arvin who was the CD for many of those years last year at Mint Julep.  But the host club, who was also the host club of 2010 and 2012 championships and possibly many more in the future.

Here are a couple....

The Dan Sullivan Memorial Scale Contest has been put on by the Ukiah PropBusters as an AMA scale contest and more recently as a qualifier.  This event began in 1977 and has run since.  Ukiah, California

The Woodland Davis Aeromodelers hosted the first 49er qualifier in 1989 or 90.  Woodland/Davis, California.

Two VERY long running events.

Thanks Mitch and jeff.  Any one else know ? What about the Texas qualifier with Lawrence Harville or the Corvin Miller qualifier in Fla.
Perhaps this could all be added to the history portion of this website.
Thanks again guys.        Mel.
