The Minnesota Scale Classic was held on August 6th.  Weather was much better than last year with light crosswinds that were not an issue.  Contest was at SMMC field near Owatonn, MN.  A beautiful place to fly.

Including myself we had 4 contestants.  So we just made this a Fun Scale event.  I had planned to fly expert with a friend but he did not show up so with only 4 people we went with Fun Scale only.  No one showed up for Team Scale.

Here are the flight scores:

Tim Johnson first place with 94.75
Chris Mayer second place with 91.00
John Baligrodzki third place with 86.75
Collin Mayer fourth place with 78.50

This event was Collins first contest.  He is 11 years old and is Chris's son. Collin borrowed a plane from another club member that he has been flying.   He flew very well.  The judges and everyone else were very impressed.  I will try to download a picture of him and his dad..  He flew a Top Flight giant scale Mustang and he flew it very well.

The Airtronics radio went to Collin. He was very happy to receive it.  Additional prizes were provided by the Scale Flyers of Minnesota. Everyone went home with some nice stuff.

As usual we had David Andeson and Bud Durand as flight judges.  David I think has judged at Top Gun.  Also he had many scale aircraft builds in RCM over the years.

Ten years ago we would have had 10 to 15 contestants.  Interest in this area for scale contest flying has certainly waned.  However I will try again next year and see if we can get more people to participate.

Regards,

John B.
