Hi Jeff,

Why no fun scale class? We have proven this class to be the growth engine for the USSMA. If there is anything I can do to help this class be added please let me know?

Best regards,

Bernie Boland

If I get enough interest, I will have fun scale also at the contest.  If you are interested, please email me and I will get a list going.

I will confirm ahead of the event with anyone who responds if it's a go/no go.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I know the trophies are the problem when a small turn out happens. Maybe just do a cash prize for the Fun class. Divide the class cash and share it down per the turn out? You never know you could have 20 pilots in Fun :o

Best regards,

Hi Jeff,

I think that next to Open class, Fun-Scale is so very important to the future of Scale Masters and every effort should be made to encourage, inspire and lead. I think to announce that a contest will not be having Fun-Scale is shooting yourself in the foot. You're telling perspective new-commers ( spectators ) that "this year we're not playing with newbees" only veterans.

I'm sorry, but you can't or should not be so near-sighted. Even if only two people show up for Fun-Scale, that's two more than none at all. And two people that could be mentored for future events. I think Open and Fun are your most important classes for your future and need to be nursed along if necessary. Maybe more effort advertising???
How about a special prize from a sponsor or vendor for these classes. Sponsors / vendors also need to be aware of the importance of the "newbee" and should do more to embrace and encourage. It can't be just about the past winners and champions.

Jeff, I have much respect for your building and flying prowess. You're N-11 or 17? ( one that crashed at Hemet years ago ) was/is an awesome model and very well exicuted. Please don't give up on the newbees....they're out there!
Respectfully,

Ken Young

Ken-- Thanks for the kind words about my Nieuport!

Fun Scale has a place.  The challenge is that the Masters program has 4 official classes that need to qualify.  Running multiple events does impose a workload.  Granted, Fun scale is a lighter workload given that there is no static component to speak of, but it is a workload nonetheless.  I will work to include fun scale where possible.  Everyone out there needs to encourage others to come also and try it out so that we get a turnout in all of the classes though.  It's key that modelers support qualifiers (to the extent possible) in any given year, regardless of finals location.  Qualifiers need pilots and pilots need qualifiers...

Thanks for the input.

This contest was unfortunately blown out by a ridiculous north wind that was only forecast the day before the event as far as I could tell.  It blew hard and long Saturday and Sunday and into Monday too.

We are trying to reschedule this event in the fall.  PLEASE STAY TUNED, THERE WILL BE MORE TO COME!!!!!!!
