I was disappointed to find there is no "page" for U.S. Scale Masters in WikiPedia, the viewer-created online encyclopedia that's consulted by many millions of people every day.

The "page" for U.S. Scale Masters on facebook has only 64 "Likes."

It appears that we are failing to seize the opportunity for global exposure and promotion of our hobby, which is often without cost, in online resources and social media.

Does anyone look after that?

Nearly two months and no reply from the admins.

This is one reason people have given up. So I will reply....I think it's a great idea to create a page on Wikipedia and any other free social websites. The USSMA needs to be more proactive in marketing and take advantage of all sources of exposure.

As I'm writting this I'm looking at an ad above for bSi glues and adhesives and wonder what if?

We need to recognize that there is a symbiotic relationship between such companys and the USSMA. Maybe there can be a "quid-pro-quo" and the USSMA can advertise on bSi's website and other manufactures as well.

Just a thought.

Look at the forum use.  I can't get anyone to use that, much less facebook, WikiPedia, etc.  Only reason we have that many followers is I invited my RC friends when I created the page.  Kinda hard to stay motivated to maintain this, facebook and any other social media when so few seem to be able to grasp the concept and use it.

Hi Ken,

I agree with your view. The USSMA is still based mainly of none computer users so we have a different challenge. Social media is the future in my mind. Mitch keep our forums going and the participation is bleak at best. His heart is extream in belief that the internet and technology is our future and I agree. How we get members on base and engaged is the big question?

It is sad to see groups like IMMAC use social media to an extream and the USSMA can't get 5% of the members to even post:-(

2013 will be a good growth year for the USSMA and with people like you voicing their thoughts and my team listening we can all grow our love!

Please stay with the pastion we need more of it!

Cheers,

Could it be the age difference with other groups compared to ours? IMAC has a lot younger crowd overall by what I have seen and the ones that are older are lets just say more Hip. I find it hard to understand in this day and age but I still have friends that do not use a computer so no email or anything. As time grows it will become more normal for USSMA members to be in the social media. I too even though I use computers every day for work and play don't find a lot of use for Facebook, Twitter and the like. Just not my thing. Forums on the other hand I think are great. May or may not be the issue but I think it relates.

Ken - in our newsletter, we have several manufacturer's ads as a sort of quid-pro-quo to support their support of us, and one of the perks of USSMA membership is discounts to some of these manufacturers.  I don't know if members are taking advantage of this or not.  I have added mf's ads into the NL, and have to retire some or get better info - and really, not all of those people with ads support USSMA, or at least not very much.

I don't really see BSI showing the Grand Champion's model on their website if the builder did not use BSI adhesives as an example.  Food for thought - or maybe fertilizer  ;D

Yea, I know, it was just a thought. But what I was really trying to say is wouldn't it be nice ( for our Association ) to see the official logo on the home page of every sponsor's website and maybe with the phrase - "Proud Sponsors of the U.S. Scale Masters"

In my "utopian world" I'd like to see that on every manufacture's website that makes products we use. And also on every r/c club's website too. ;D

Wouldn't it be great ;)
