I know it is early BUT
we have to plan ahead
anyone know?

Roly

Thanks Lawrence, I disagree with you about it's early.

We need to strive for couple of years in advance notice as to where & when the Championships will be held.

People who are working need to get their time off in now to assure they get the time off to go to the event. Locals need to start preparing for the event now. This late time notifications of where the Championships are to be held hurts Scale Masters Championships attendance.

At a minimum we should have regular status updates.

My Humble Opinion.

Thanks, Roly

I agree with Roly, I had been asking Mike Barbee for months about 2014 location before 2013 champs with no luck.

It should be locked down by end of November and made public knowledge so the USSMA team can load all manufactures on the event detail in Jan during budget planning.

What a concept:-)

Roly

I agree with Lawrence, it's never too early, we should be two three years ahead.

Currently we are negotiating with ORVR/CF for the 2014 Champs.  Same club that hosted in 2012 and 2010.  Once it is finalized, official announcement will be made. That is all the info I have at this time.  And yes, I agree, we should have and have tried several times to have 2-3yrs locked in.  But as we have seen from 2011 and 2013 on the west coast, even being "locked" in does not mean much.  Twice now, the location was yanked out from under both USSMA and the host club.  --Mitch

Years with no luck on the east coast - Mike lives in Ohio do not see anything happening more east :-(

Nothing new, we need clubs to step up with the facilities and manpower to host the event.  We need people on the ground to champion this.  Can't do much without members fighting to host the event.  Contact CDs/Clubs/etc...  drum up some places...

Here it is the middle of January and no announcement of a date or location yet. Today the official dates were announced for the Dawn Patrol Rendezvous at the Air Force Museum on September 26-28 2014. This is a really big deal event. If the championships are held on the east coast I hope that it won't be on these dates, there will be a lot of good scale WWI aircraft and pilots that simply won't be there. If it's held on the west coast, who cares!

Larry, the process of find a site for the Championships and setting everything in motion is fairly complex.  I do know that a contract has been sent to the probable host club (it is not my position to announce who/when).  One thing that hampers things is the moving location of the Championships.  If it were the same one or two places every year that would be a lot easier - but dealing with a new site and new personnel/clubs tends to slow everything down.

There is a club in the Pacific Northwest that has made a pitch already for the 2015 Championships, but that is a rare occurrence.  The bids for hosting the Championships usually come much later.

How about your club - is your site suitable for the Championships?  If it is why not make a pitch for 2016?

Jeff, come on it has been shown to be a very easy thing to do. The 2013 location was done by a group of 3 on a weekend I think. Note, done without the Chairman even knowing until Mitch posted it. Get the east cost off their butts and pick a club!

Another month has gone by and nothing. The September fly-in schedule is filling up fast.

And yes Jeff we are having two Scale Masters Qualifiers, The Columbus Scale Classic on August 16th and 17th here in Columbus, Ohio and the NASA Scale Classic in Muncie on October 3-5, 2014.

I am very familiar with what it takes to host a scale event. I have been the CD for at least 6 the past several years. I think that internal politics and a lack of leadership is the real problem.

Ok
Lets try and cover some of the items here. Yes we have had 2-3 years lined up a few times, the 2 year plan for Champs has worked the best, will try to have that put back into place this year for the good of the group. Over the past years the West coast has had 3 Champs location fall out, 1 year twice a thrid club in line steeped up. One other time we went from Ca. too Az for the Champs. Yes I learned early to have a backup club inplace, so that is the reason for a fast fix on past Champs. We are working with ,the Ohio River Club in Rosewood Indiana. Dates Sept. 19-21st, should be able to post by this weekend. As for finding sites for the Champs we all need to keep an ear out or just talk to clubs in your area. The biggest problem with many clubs is the help needed to host a Champs. I had a full size airport handed to me last year on the East Coast for 2014, but they did not have the help to host the Champs. Can something get worked out for 2016, they have time now. More later

It looks like 2014 is in place. Like was said we need clubs that would like to host the event to come forward. So here is your chance, talk to your club members and rally for your club or a club you know of to Host a Championship. All you have to do is let us know so that we can at least have a list of interested clubs. Now is the time to think about it. We would love to have a Clubs come forward early especially on the East coast. So here is your chance to do just that.

Hello Randy,

If we ask clubs to host the Championships is there a list of "site criteria" that is needed to meet the event requirements?

Thanks,

I am not sure. We have had suggestions in the past I believe. Not sure but will find out if we have documentation on site suggestion. I personally do not want to put any "Have To". Better a club a club comes forward and then we as a group can look at it and see if it will work. I don't want any club to think that there site is not good enough.

The Ohio River View RC Flyers in Rosewood Indiana have steeped up to host the 2014 Champs,Sept 18th-21st.
I have sent the contract to them to get started on this. They have hosted two Championships and have done a stand up job.
I have been told they have in place a number of improvements to their flying site. Each time I have gone to this location there has been something new.
This club and membership have a lot to offer the competitors at the Champs.
So get out there get Qualified and come to the Champs in Rosewood Indiana.

Hope to see you at the Champs

My suggestion to all of you complaining, about the scheduling of the Championships and the length of time given, is to run for office, get elected and do the job yourself.  That way you will realize how much effort it takes.  Those of you that have held office and left before completion of your duties should understand this and not even participate in the discussion.  Many of you that only wish to ride on the coat tails of those that do all of the work year after year, it is time you stepped up and participate in the management of the organization rather than just show up for the fun and not contribute to any of the work.
